When forming the State of Maryland why did they keep the little western part?

Author: admin  |  Category: western maryland

Looking at it on the map it seems to me it should have been given to West Virginia. How narrow is it at its small point where I-70 ends or begins?

West Virginia was part of Virginia until the Civil War. Maryland was an original colony. I’m not from Maryland, or West Virginia, so I don’t really know, but it probably has something to do with some geolographic feature (river, mountain range, etc.) or maybe Maryland just really likes it…

Where can I find a list of plants and shrubs indigenous to Western MD - this relates to natural landscaping?

Author: admin  |  Category: western maryland

I’m interested in natural landscaping for our vacation home in western maryland. We will not get a chance to water frequently, etc. Need a list of a few shrubs and ornamental plants/flowers which I can put on the property. Thanks!

First you will see western maryland Scenic Railroads GP30 #501 entering berland with a standard Diesel Thursday excursion train.

Then watch as the train makes its way around Helmstetters curve.

Then our train makes its way to the steep Woodcock Hollow curve.

Finally you will see the train on the return trip through the Narrows from high up on Will’s Mountain. (Sorry About All the Wind Sounds!)

Western Maryland railroad history question please?

Author: admin  |  Category: western maryland

can anyone provide me with a street address/ location where the old WM station was? and as any extras, where ANY current station is located? does the amtrak station there have any history?

Thanks in advance.
One important error on my part… I need the locations in Connellsville, PA. I guess it would help to know what location i mean. The station at Cumberland isnt too bad, at least it is still in its intended service.

The WM station now is the home of Yough Glass, 900 Crawford Ave. in C'ville. Here is a link with photos and history:

http://www.youghioghenyglass.com/contactus.html

There is an Amtrak station in Greensburg, drive up 119 from C'ville. Closer than Pgh, though I'm not sure of the address.

Also check this book out for some history of the WM along the Yough:
